Dusty Banjos

      Na minha sede por conhecer música irlandesa minha host mom encontrou este grupo "Dusty Banjos" que se reúne toda quinta-feira em duas sessões: Beginner's das 6:30 pm até 7:45pm e Advanced 8pm to 9:45 no Western Hotel. O "clima" das aulas é muito divertido e tem a ideia de promover a música irlandesa. Inclusive encontrei este filme falando do projeto: 

      O Dusty banjos iniciou em 2002 por Mary Lovett e a Comunidade musical local, é uma sessão de música para estudantes de música tradicional irlandesa. A ideia é que as pessoas possam tocar juntas, praticar música irlandesa com outras pessoas. Então eles selecionam algumas músicas distribuem as partituras ou tablaturas e todos seguem a mesma música.

Dusty Banjos

       Depois que você se acostuma com a música é fácil de acompanhar, eu levei meu violão para a aula. Além disso eles são pacientes e estão preocupados que você possa se divertir com a música irlandesa. O tom das músicas irlandesas na maior parte do tempo varia só entre D e G.        In my desire to know Irish music my host mom found this group "Dusty Banjos" which meets every Thursday in two sessions: Beginner's 6:30 pm until 7:45 pm and Advanced at 9:45 to 8pm in in Western Hotel. Taaffes

        Tem um pub que já fomos alguma vezes. Foi facilmente eleito por mim um dos melhores pubs de Galway: o Taaffes. Quinta-feira passada foi a primeira vez que fomos lá, é um pub que só música tradicional como o The Crane. É fácil você ver os irlandeses se levantarem e começarem a dançarem no Taaffes em meio a risos e cerveja. Quando entramos lá pela primeira vez, na quinta-feira passada, fomos seguindo nossos ouvidos para chegar ao palco no fundo. Encontramos um trio tocando violino, que na verdade não é um violino segundo o que me explicaram é pelo que entendi é uma rabeca, acordeon e violão. O grupo é conhecido pelo nome "Out of the West".

        Segundo o bar a música irlandesa começa por volta das 5.30pm e vai até às 11pm. Com duas sessões musicais. O lugar é muito acolhedor, você fica muito próximo dos músicos e é possível assistir e escutar boa música irlandesa. Ele combinou bastante coma ideia do que eu imaginava de um Pub na Irlanda.

     Um fato interessante quando você está em um Pub irlandês é a sincronia, no meio da música os músicos começam a bater os pés para marcar o tempo e todos começam a marcar o tempo juntos seja com palmas ou com os próprios pés. É como se tudo vibrasse na mesma frequência.

      Domingo escolhemos novamente passar um pouco no Taaffes e era o mesmo grupo. Mas quando decidimos quer iríamos fica lá no Patrick's Day corremos depois do desfile para conseguirmos uma mesa e tocou outro trio com um violão, um acordeon e banjo. Infelizmente, esqueci de perguntar qual era o nome do grupo, mas se descobrir corrijo a minha falta. Eu e a Luiza fomos "puxadas" por duas senhoras para dançarmos música irlandesa, e assim aprendemos os primeiros passos da dança tradicional. Foi divertido, mas a medida que o tempo foi passando o pub foi ficando muito lotado e praticamente impossível de se movimentar.

      A música do dia é da famosa banda The Dubliners " I'll tell me Ma". Uma música animada que combina com o ritmo de Galway.

                  I've been many times in a pub here in Galway. Was easily elected for me one of the best pubs in Galway: the Taaffes. Last Thursday was the first time we went there, it is a pub that only traditional music such as The Crane. It is easy for you to see the Irish get up and start dancing in Taaffes in the midst of laughter and beer. When we walked in there the first time last Thursday, we followed our ears to get to the stage in the background. We found a trio playing the violin, which is actually not a violin according to what was explained to me is as I understand it is a fiddle, accordion and guitar.           According to Taaffes Irish Music starts around 5.30pm and goes until 11pm. With two music sessions. The place is very cozy, you are very close to the musicians and you can watch and listen good Irish music. He combined well with the idea of ​​what I imagined a Pub in Ireland.

      An interesting fact when you're in an Irish Pub is synchrony, in the middle of the song the musicians begin to stomp their feet in the floor to mark the time and everyone begins to mark time together with the palms or feet. It's like everything vibrates at the same rhythm.

       Sunday we chose again to spend some of the day at Taaffes and it was the same group of Thursday. But when we decided we would want to stay at Taaffes in Patrick's Day we run after the show to get a table. The first group of the afternoon is another trio with a guitar, an accordion and a banjo. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask what was the name of the group, but if I discover I'll correct my lack. Luisa and I were "pulled" by two irish ladies and we dance Irish music, and so we learn the first steps of traditional dance. It was fun, but as time passed the pub was getting very crowded and almost impossible to move.

Pennywhistle and Acordeon at Atlantic School

      Existe um certo sabor em entrar em pub. Principalmente se ele tem música irlandesa, uma mistura de cheiro, sons, e concentração. Sexta-feira fomos no "The Crane" um pub que já estava na minha lista de Pubs para visitar, mas ontem teve uma apresentação de manhã para a comemoração do St. Patricks day na Atlantic com a flauta irlandesa chamada de Pennywhistle, uma pequena flauta de metal que lembra a flauta doce, e o acordeon.

      O flautista estava com uma camiseta do The Crane e a noite quando cheguei lá ele era o Barman do pub. Tenho a impressão que todo o irlandês é de alguma formas fortemente envolvido culturalmente com a sua terra natal seja falando Gaélico, seja musicalmente, ou dançando... Mas a noite teve a apresentação de uma dupla o Peter and Padraig. Foi a primeira vez que tive contato com um instrumento muito complexo: a Uilleann Pipes, ou gaita irlandesa. A dupla era de acordeon e Uilleann Pipes. Encontrei um vídeo deles tocando:

      Descobri sexta-feira a noite que quando um músico começa a tocar a música tradicional irlandesa, mesmo um um lugar barulhento como um pub, todos ficam em silêncio para apreciar. As conversas acontecem só nos intervalos entre uma música e outra. Achei incrível. A luz baixa, a atmosfera, todos prestando a atenção no músico. É como se trancassem a respiração e no meio da apresentação tivessem alguns gritos de comemoração conforme a complexidade da música. É possível ver também alguns dançando no espaço apertado dos Pubs a música irlandesa.

       Se você se permitir mergulhar na cultura local você poderá conversar e descobrir que a Irlanda vai além da Guiness e dos Pubs bons. Depois que terminou a apresentação no The Crane fomos procurar outro Pub com música boa. A vantagem de estar na Irlanda e em Galway é que se você não gosta da música de um lugar, a poucos passos dali existe certamente um Pub com música e ambiente que você irá gostar. Acabamos indo no The Carroll's onde uma dupla estava tocando rock.

         E depois ficamos um pouco no Roisin Dubh . Achei o Roisin Dubh um lugar fantástico,  porém a música na sexta-feira não era para o meu "paladar": eletrônica. Acredito que o dia não foi o certo para ir no Roisin Dubh porque já escutei vários bons comentários sobre a música lá, além do site deles ser muito completo e ter toda a programação para os próximos dias. Então ficamos um pouco e depois decidimos ir para casa. Logo que entrei no Pub o que me chamou a atenção foi a estante de livros acessível para qualquer interessado. Alguns livros bons logo vi um livro que li quando tinha uns 16 anos "The Runaway Jury" (em português: "O júri") do escritor americano John Grisham. Li o primeiro capítulo em inglês antes de voltar para casa.

          Quem vier para Galway não deixe de conferir a programação do Roisin Dubh e se está interessado em música irlandesa tradicional uma boa pedida é o The Craine, recomendadíssimo.

But at the night was a incredible presentation by a double Peter and Padraig. It was the first time I had contact with a very complex instrument: the Uilleann Pipes. The duo was accordion and Uilleann Pipes. I found a video of them playing:

     I discovered Friday night that when a musician starts playing traditional Irish music, even a a noisy place like a pub, everyone is silent to enjoy. Conversations happen only during breaks between songs. I found it amazing. The low light, the atmosphere, all paying attention to the musician. It is like everyone at the pub as holding his breath and in the middle of the presentation were some shouts of celebration as the complexity of the music. You can also see some dancing in the tight space of the Pubs Irish music.

       If you allow yourself to dive into the local culture you can chat and find out that Ireland is beyond Guiness and good pubs. After we finished the presentation at The Crane went looking for another pub with good music. The advantage of living in Ireland and Galway is that if you do not like the music of a place, a few steps away there is certainly a Pub with music and atmosphere you will enjoy. We ended up going to The Carroll's where a duo was playing rock.

         And then get a little time at Roisin Dubh . Roisin Dubh I thought it a fantastic place, but the music on Friday was not for my "taste": electronic music. I believe that the day was not the right time to go Roisin Dubh because I heard many good comments about the music there, and they have a good site that entire schedule for the next month. So we stayed at there a little bit and then decided to go home. As soon as I entered the Pub what caught my attention was the bookshelf of books accessible to anyone interested. I soon saw a book I read when I was about sixteen "The Runaway Jury"of the American writer John Grisham. Read the first chapter in English before returning home.

          Whoever comes to Galway be sure to check the schedule of the Roisin Dubh and if you are interested in traditional Irish music a good choice is The Craine, I recommend.
