The Burning Hell

      Na última quinta-feira fui assistir o show da banda Canadense The Burning Hell no pub The Crane, na verdade estavam dois integrantes da banda: Kom tocando violão e Ariel Sharrat tocando clarinete. A banda tem é irreverente e as letras são inteligentes. Por exemplo, na música "Bed time stories" criticando as histórias de dormir: "in every folk tale, in every book, there is a hero or a heroine. and there is a witch or a troll or a crook or an evil stepmother or just a general villain. and I remember reading when i was young and i always felt sorry for the bad ones and the tricksters (...)". Outra música muito interessante e que todo mundo cantou junto durante o show foi "Everything you Believe is a lie". A dupla era muito envolvente e o tempo passou rápido no The Crane.

      Para abrir o show do The Burning Hell teve Steven Sharpe um homem que fez uma peça de teatro "Who’s The Man?" falando como é crescer gay na Irlanda. Ele fez uma participação especial com Tara Stacey que tem uma voz muito doce. Vale a pena conhecer os dois ele é muito teatral e expressivo. Já foram adicionados na minha playlist.

         Apesar do pouco tempo da atuação da Tara, procurei sobre ela na internet e encontrei o Bandcamp dela com algumas músicas. Uma delas tem no youtube: "Candles".

     O outro show de abertura foi com o James OD, não encontrei muitas informações sobre ele na internet, só alguns shows que ele apresentou junto com a Tara Stacey, o Steven Sharpe e a banda The Fellow Sponges. Ele também tinha uma linha de show bem alternativa. Foi muito interessante poder conhecer a banda The Burning Hell ao vivo e me aproximar da música local de Galway.

        No final do show comprei o disco de vinil do The Burning Hell o disco "The Flux Capacitor" e deu até para conseguir um autógrafo, só vou conseguir escutar o vinil no Brasil, mas ganhei um código para fazer o download do disco no Bandcamp.

      On Thursday I went to watch the show from the Canadian band The Burning Hell at the pub The Crane, actually were two members of the band: Kom playing guitar and clarinet playing Ariel Sharratt. The band has is irreverent and the lyrics are clever. For example, the song "Bed Time stories" criticizing the bedtime stories "in every folk tale, in every book, there is a hero or a heroine and there is a witch or a troll or a crook or an evil stepmother or. just a general villain. reading and I remember when i was young and i always felt sorry for the bad ones and the tricksters (...) ". Another very interesting and everyone sang along during the show music was "Everything you Believe is a lie." The duo was very engaging and the time passed quickly at The Crane.

        To open the show at The Burning Hell had Steven Sharpe, a man who made a drama "Who's The Man?" speaking of growing up gay in Ireland. He made ​​a cameo with Tara Stacey and she has a very sweet voice. It is worth knowing the two is very theatrical and expressive. Already been added to my playlist.

      Despite the short time of action of Tara, I searched about her on the internet and found some songs in the ​​Bandcamp. One of them has on youtube: "Candles".

     At the end of the show I bought the vinyl of The Burning Hell's album "The Flux Capacitor" and gave up to get an autograph, I only get to listen to vinyl in Brazil, but I got a code to download the album on Bandcamp.

Dusty Banjos

      Na minha sede por conhecer música irlandesa minha host mom encontrou este grupo "Dusty Banjos" que se reúne toda quinta-feira em duas sessões: Beginner's das 6:30 pm até 7:45pm e Advanced 8pm to 9:45 no Western Hotel. O "clima" das aulas é muito divertido e tem a ideia de promover a música irlandesa. Inclusive encontrei este filme falando do projeto: 

      O Dusty banjos iniciou em 2002 por Mary Lovett e a Comunidade musical local, é uma sessão de música para estudantes de música tradicional irlandesa. A ideia é que as pessoas possam tocar juntas, praticar música irlandesa com outras pessoas. Então eles selecionam algumas músicas distribuem as partituras ou tablaturas e todos seguem a mesma música.

Dusty Banjos

       Depois que você se acostuma com a música é fácil de acompanhar, eu levei meu violão para a aula. Além disso eles são pacientes e estão preocupados que você possa se divertir com a música irlandesa. O tom das músicas irlandesas na maior parte do tempo varia só entre D e G. Acredito que quem quiser ter uma experiência musical tocando na Irlanda deve procurar o Dusty Banjos. Deixo os links deles abaixo.

Dusty Banjos

       In my desire to know Irish music my host mom found this group "Dusty Banjos" which meets every Thursday in two sessions: Beginner's 6:30 pm until 7:45 pm and Advanced at 9:45 to 8pm in in Western Hotel. The "climate" of the class is great fun and has the idea of ​​promoting Irish music. Inclusive I found this movie talking about the project:

     Sexta-feira é a noite tradicional para ir nos pubs aqui em Galway. Na verdade os melhores dias são quinta-feira, sexta-feira e sábado. Porque quinta-feira? Mas, porque quinta? Porque a maioria dos estudantes volta para as suas casas que são perto de Galway na sexta-feira, então eles aproveitam a quinta-feira.

     Na última sexta-feira teve um "carnaval" com músicas a moda da Bahia promovido pela escola de idiomas foi bom conhecer pessoalmente alguns amigos que eu conhecia apenas pelo facebook, poder comer comida brasileira, mas enfim, eu não gosto de Axé.

Carnival

     Depois fomos para um Pub o Skeff mas estava só tocando música eletrônica e bem parecia que a música ruim estava em uma perseguição implacável conosco. Porém eu ainda não conhecia o Skeff e um pub muito bonito, com várias pinturas antigas, um ar de filme antigo. Lembrou-me um pouco a máfia italiana no livro/filme "The Godfather" (O Poderoso Chefão). Tinha também alguns vitrais incríveis no teto, e com vários detalhes em madeira muito bem arranjado, um lugar confortável e animado logo a primeira vista. Mas segundo o pessoal, lá é bom conhecer no sábado, então, se está pensando em vir para Galway o sábado é no Skeff.

     Por fim, decidimos ir para um outro Pub. Eu estou avidamente procurando música irlandesa, tentando aprender ao máximo sobre a cultura local, um lugar bom para isso já é o querido e pequeno Pub Tig Cóilí.  Porém como já estava tarde acabamos indo até o Pub mais popular o The Kings Head. Aqui na Irlanda o "tarde" é bem relativo comparado ao Brasil, porque os Pubs fecham nos dias menos populares por volta das 23hs e na quinta, na sexta e no sábado por volta das 2h da madrugada. Outra coisa que os brasileiros não estão acostumados é que na Irlanda é proibido beber na rua, e também levar sua própria bebida para os Pubs (uma ideia "econômica", porém proibida). 

      Existem vários fatos interessantes sobre o TheKings Head, além do lugar ser muito confortável, um típico pub irlandês. Por exemplo, o prédio existe desde o século XIII e foi a casa do prefeito Thomas Lynch Fitz-Ambrose em 1654. O nome "The Kings Head" surgiu devido a execução do rei Charles no dia 3 de janeiro de 1649 pelo Cromwell. Como ele queria mostrar sua autoridade perante o Reino Unido ele foi para Irlanda,  o braço direito dele Peter Stubbers dominou a cidade de Galway em 1653 instituindo um governo militar. O prefeito Thomas e a guarda da cidade estavam instifeitos com o tratamento da população de Galway e se rebeleram, porém foram dominados e foram expulsos da cidade. Stubbers queria insultar ainda mais seu inimigo e por isso mudou-se para a casa do ex-preifeto, onde é o  atual "The Kings Head".

      No The Kings Head estava tocando uma banda local de Galway o The Big Eazy uma banda muito diversificada, vários músicos tocavam e cantavam e combinavam os seus timbres de voz diferentes o que fez com que eles tivessem uma set list de covers bem grande. Saindo do rock e indo para jazz e música irlandesa pop com facilidade. Foi uma boa combinação para uma sexta-feira a noite.

       No final do show estavam fechando o The Kings Head, quando saímos encontramos alguns brasileiros que estavam no carnaval. Inventei de tentar tocar um pouco de violão, porém os irlandeses bebem muito e ficam absolutamente loucos. Então eles vieram e ficaram pulando ao meu redor e tiraram fotos. Foi divertido olhando agora, mas estava um pouco assustada.

Crazy Irishs

        A canção do dia é "The Whiskey in the Jar" uma canção que não tem uma origem exata conhecia, mas é muito comum na Irlanda. Diversos de seus versos e a trama geral lembram a de uma balada tradicional chamada "Patrick Fleming" (também "Patrick Flemmen he was a Valiant Souldier"), sobre um salteador irlandês executado em 1650. A história fala de alguns condados irlandeses e da história desse salteador que após roubar um governante da época foi traído pela mulher. Existem várias versões da música mas ela se consagrou mundialmente pela banda "The Dubliners".

The Kings Head

       Friday is the tradicional night to go to the pubs here in Galway. In fact the best days are: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So, why Thursday (If the most traditional day in many places is Friday)? Because most students back to their homes that are close to Galway on Friday, so they enjoying the Thursday feira.

      In last Friday had a "carnival" with songs from the state of Brasil Bahia promoted by the Atlantic language school. At the carnival I could know personally some "friends" that I knew only by facebook, can eat brazilian food, but anyway, I do not really enjoy Axé music - a kind of brazilian music.

     After that we decided goes to a Pub with the name "Skeff" but it was playing just electronic music,
seemed that the music that I don't like are in a relentless persecution me. But I did not know Skeff, It's a beautiful pub with several old paintings, an air of old film. It reminded me the Italian Mafia in the book /movie The Godfather. Had some amazing stained glass ceiling, and various wooden details beautifully arranged, a comfortable and lively place. But according to the people, there is good to meet on Saturday, so if you are thinking of coming to Galway on Saturday the choice is Skeff.

     Finally, we decided to go for another Pub I'm eagerly looking for Irish music, trying to learn as much about the local culture, a good place for this is the dear little Tig Cóilí.  But as it was late we ended up going to the more popular the Kings Head Pub. Here in Ireland the "late" is well on compared to Brazil, because the pubs are closed on days less popular around 11p.m. and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday around 2 am. Another thing that Brazilians are not used in Ireland is that it is forbidden to drink in the street and take your own drink for Pubs (an "economic" idea, but it is forbidden).

      There are several interesting facts about The Kings Head, beyond the place to be very comfortable, a typical Irish pub. For example, the building existed since the thirteenth century and was the home of Mayor Thomas Lynch Fitz-Ambrose in 1654. The name "The Kings Head" came about due the execution of King Charles I on January 3, 1649 by Cromwell. How the Cromwell wanted to show his authority before the UK he went to Ireland, his right arm Peter Stubbers dominated the city of Galway in 1653 establishing a military government. Thomas The mayor and city guard were unhappy with the treatment of the population of Galway and and they organized a rebellion. But they were overpowered and were expelled from the city.       At The Kings Head was playing a local band from Galway The Big Eazy . The group are very diversified. Multiple musicians played and sang and their combined their different voices and that made they had a great set list of covers as well. Leaving the rock and going to jazz and Irish pop music with ease. It was a good combination for a Friday night.

       At the end of the show The Kings Head are getting closed, when we left and we found some Brazilians that were on the carnival. And I tried to play a guitar, but the Irish drink a lot and are absolutely crazy. So about three or four drunk irish came and start to jump around me and took pictures. It was fun looking at now, but I was afraid.

        The song of the day is "The Whiskey in the Jar" a song that has no exact origin, but is very common in Ireland. Several of his verses and the overall plot reminiscent of a traditional ballad called "Patrick Fleming" (also "Patrick Flemmen he was a Valiant Souldier"), about an Irish highwayman executed in 1650. The story tells of some Irish counties and the history of the robber that after robbing a ruler of the time he was betrayed a woman.
