Existe um certo sabor em entrar em pub. Principalmente se ele tem música irlandesa, uma mistura de cheiro, sons, e concentração. Sexta-feira fomos no "The Crane" um pub que já estava na minha lista de Pubs para visitar, mas ontem teve uma apresentação de manhã para a comemoração do St. Patricks day na Atlantic com a flauta irlandesa chamada de Pennywhistle, uma pequena flauta de metal que lembra a flauta doce, e o acordeon.

O flautista estava com uma camiseta do The Crane e a noite quando cheguei lá ele era o Barman do pub. Tenho a impressão que todo o irlandês é de alguma formas fortemente envolvido culturalmente com a sua terra natal seja falando Gaélico, seja musicalmente, ou dançando... Mas a noite teve a apresentação de uma dupla o Peter and Padraig. Foi a primeira vez que tive contato com um instrumento muito complexo: a Uilleann Pipes, ou gaita irlandesa. A dupla era de acordeon e Uilleann Pipes. Encontrei um vídeo deles tocando:
Descobri sexta-feira a noite que quando um músico começa a tocar a música tradicional
irlandesa, mesmo um um lugar barulhento como um pub, todos ficam em
silêncio para apreciar. As conversas acontecem só nos intervalos entre
uma música e outra. Achei incrível. A luz baixa, a atmosfera, todos
prestando a atenção no músico. É como se trancassem a respiração e no
meio da apresentação tivessem alguns gritos de comemoração conforme a
complexidade da música. É possível ver também alguns dançando no espaço
apertado dos Pubs a música irlandesa.

Depois que terminou a apresentação no The Crane fomos procurar outro Pub com música boa. A vantagem de estar na Irlanda e em Galway é que se você não gosta da música de um lugar, a poucos passos dali existe certamente um Pub com música e ambiente que você irá gostar. Acabamos indo no The Carroll's onde uma dupla estava tocando rock.

E depois ficamos um pouco no Roisin Dubh . Achei o Roisin Dubh um lugar fantástico, porém a música na sexta-feira não era para o meu "paladar": eletrônica. Acredito que o dia não foi o certo para ir no Roisin Dubh porque já escutei vários bons comentários sobre a música lá, além do site deles ser muito completo e ter toda a programação para os próximos dias. Então ficamos um pouco e depois decidimos ir para casa. Logo que entrei no Pub o que me chamou a atenção foi a estante de livros acessível para qualquer interessado. Alguns livros bons logo vi um livro que li quando tinha uns 16 anos "The Runaway Jury" (em português: "O júri") do escritor americano John Grisham. Li o primeiro capítulo em inglês antes de voltar para casa.

Sexta-feira é a noite tradicional
para ir nos pubs aqui em Galway. Na verdade os melhores dias são
quinta-feira, sexta-feira e sábado. Porque quinta-feira? Mas, porque
quinta? Porque a maioria dos estudantes volta para as suas casas que são
perto de Galway na sexta-feira, então eles aproveitam a quinta-feira.
Na última sexta-feira teve um "carnaval" com músicas a moda da Bahia
promovido pela escola de idiomas foi bom conhecer pessoalmente alguns
amigos que eu conhecia apenas pelo facebook, poder comer comida
brasileira, mas enfim, eu não gosto de Axé.

Depois fomos para um Pub o Skeff mas
estava só tocando música eletrônica e bem parecia que a música ruim
estava em uma perseguição implacável conosco. Porém eu ainda não
conhecia o Skeff e um pub muito bonito, com várias pinturas antigas, um
ar de filme antigo. Lembrou-me um pouco a máfia italiana no livro/filme
"The Godfather" (O Poderoso Chefão). Tinha também alguns vitrais
incríveis no teto, e com vários detalhes em madeira muito bem arranjado,
um lugar confortável e animado logo a primeira vista. Mas segundo o
pessoal, lá é bom conhecer no sábado, então, se está pensando em vir
para Galway o sábado é no Skeff.

Por fim, decidimos ir para um outro Pub. Eu estou avidamente procurando
música irlandesa, tentando aprender ao máximo sobre a cultura local, um
lugar bom para isso já é o querido e pequeno Pub Tig Cóilí. Porém como já estava tarde acabamos indo até o Pub mais popular o The Kings Head.
Aqui na Irlanda o "tarde" é bem relativo comparado ao Brasil, porque os
Pubs fecham nos dias menos populares por volta das 23hs e na quinta, na
sexta e no sábado por volta das 2h da madrugada. Outra coisa que os
brasileiros não estão acostumados é que na Irlanda é proibido beber na
rua, e também levar sua própria bebida para os Pubs (uma ideia
"econômica", porém proibida).
Existem vários fatos interessantes sobre o TheKings Head, além do
lugar ser muito confortável, um típico pub irlandês. Por exemplo, o
prédio existe desde o século XIII e foi a casa do prefeito Thomas Lynch Fitz-Ambrose em 1654. O nome "The Kings Head" surgiu devido
a execução do rei Charles no dia 3 de janeiro de 1649 pelo Cromwell.
Como ele queria mostrar sua autoridade perante o Reino Unido ele foi
para Irlanda, o braço direito dele Peter Stubbers dominou a cidade de
Galway em 1653 instituindo um governo militar. O prefeito Thomas e a
guarda da cidade estavam instifeitos com o tratamento da população de
Galway e se rebeleram, porém foram dominados e foram expulsos da cidade.
Stubbers queria insultar ainda mais seu inimigo e por isso mudou-se
para a casa do ex-preifeto, onde é o atual "The Kings Head".
No The Kings Head estava tocando uma banda local de Galway o The Big Eazy
uma banda muito diversificada, vários músicos tocavam e cantavam e
combinavam os seus timbres de voz diferentes o que fez com que eles
tivessem uma set list de covers bem grande. Saindo do rock e indo para
jazz e música irlandesa pop com facilidade. Foi uma boa combinação para
uma sexta-feira a noite.

No final do show estavam fechando o The Kings Head, quando saímos
encontramos alguns brasileiros que estavam no carnaval. Inventei de
tentar tocar um pouco de violão, porém os irlandeses bebem muito e ficam
absolutamente loucos. Então eles vieram e ficaram pulando ao meu redor e
tiraram fotos. Foi divertido olhando agora, mas estava um pouco
assustada.

A canção do dia é "The Whiskey in the Jar" uma canção que não tem uma
origem exata conhecia, mas é muito comum na Irlanda. Diversos de seus
versos e a trama geral lembram a de uma balada
tradicional chamada "Patrick Fleming" (também "Patrick Flemmen he was a
Valiant Souldier"), sobre um salteador irlandês executado em 1650. A
história fala de alguns condados irlandeses e da história desse
salteador que após roubar um governante da época foi traído pela mulher.
Existem várias versões da música mas ela se consagrou mundialmente pela
banda "The Dubliners".

Friday is the tradicional night to go to the pubs here in Galway. In
fact the best days are: Thursday, Friday and Saturday. So, why Thursday
(If the most traditional day in many places is Friday)? Because moststudentsback totheir homesthat areclose toGalwayon Friday, so theyenjoying theThursdayfeira.
Inlast Fridayhad a"carnival" withsongs from the state of Brasil Bahia promoted by theAtlantic language school.
At the carnival I could know personally some "friends" that I knew only
by facebook, can eat brazilian food, but anyway, I do not really enjoy
Axé music - a kind of brazilian music.
