Caríssimos escritores de plantão e apaixonados por literatura, faltam 17 dias para começar o maior festival de literatura da Irlanda: o Cúirt - International Festival of Literature ou em gaélico Cúirt - Féile Ifirnáisiúnta Litríochta. Já pensei diversas vezes porque vim parar na Irlanda e em Galway, um pouco por escolhas, um pouco os caminhos foram me guiando. E bem por acaso ou não parei na cidade que sedia o maior evento literário da Irlanda: Galway.
O Cúirt acontece em abril e conta com a participação de diversas pessoas como poetas, editores, cronistas, jornalistas, músicos, atores entre outros. Este ano vai acontecer do dia 8-19 de abril. O evento é composto de saraus, workshops, apresentações de teatro, apresentações de humor, muita música e valorização da cultura local. Para “sentir” o clima do evento escolhi este vídeo do Cúirt 2013 com o texto “Wonder as Wander” da poeta americana Sharon Olds.
Além de autores irlandeses terão autores participando do Canáda e do Reino Unido, e não só escritores como entusiastas do mundo dos livros: editores, organizadores de eventos literários, e pessoas trabalham em diferentes áreas do mundo do livro. O evento é maravilhoso e tem várias atividades gratuitas, porém muitas pagas também. Os valores variam de €6 (para estudantes e €8 normal) até €24 (o que se você parar para pensar são mais de 80 reais), então o que resta é aproveitar o que se tem gratuitamente. Eu enviei um e-mail me voluntariando para participar do Cúirt e quem sabe poder acompanhar mais de perto a programação.
Mas o Cúirt é muito bem organizado e tem várias boas ideias, como um projeto que se chama “Read me I’m Yours” que são cópias dos livros dos atures que vão participar do Cúirt distribuídos por toda a cidade, as pessoas podem simplesmente pegar os livros e levar para casa para ler, e certamente procurarem sobre o autor que participará do Cúirt. É muito interessante esse movimentação. Outra boa ideia que está anunciada é uma comunidade de leitura chamada “One book, one Tuam”, Tuam é uma pequena cidade do Condado de Galway, o projeto tem a intenção de incluir a comunidade para enriquecer a aprendizagem das crianças. Os objetivos do projeto são reduzir as dificuldades de alfabetização, para promover a leitura por prazer e criar um senso de comunidade. Então a cada ano estimula-se a comunidade desta cidade a ler um livro, este ano é The London Eye Mystery doautor irlandês Siobhán Dowd (mais informações:

Além disso existe uma parte da programação que se chama “Kitchen Readings” e que seleciona autores irlandeses para lerem na casa de algum irlandês que “empresta” a sua cozinha para o sarau. Este ano será com os poetas irlandeses Elaine Feeney e Dave Lordan. O Dave Lordan vai dar um workshop pago sobre escrita criativa na quinta-feira, com a intenção de explorar a experimentação da prática da escrita.
Outro evento muito legal é o “Over de Edge” (este é gratuito!) que iniciou em 2003 e se tornou uma consagrada série de leitura literária com vários autores locais participantes que compartilham suas escritas desde o início da série. O Over de Edge acontece na quinta-feira dia 10 às 4 p.m no Town Hall Theatre. No mesmo horário no Cope Shop na quarta-feira vai ter um encontro da revista “Ropes” criada pelos estudantes de Mestrado em Arte e Literatura e do Programa de Publicação da National University of Ireland, Galway. O tema deste ano da Ropes é “Home”. Outra revista que estará no evento é a Crannóg que em irlandês significa “árvore jovem” e que aparentemente é muito boa.

Também faz parte da programação (e não tem um custo tão alto) é o Poetry Grand Slam que é uma competição na qual as pessoas leem os seus trabalhos e as melhores histórias são eleitas, os melhores vão ir para um evento famoso da Irlanda que valoriza cultura local o Eletric Picnic (vale a pena ler mais sobre). O Poetry Slam vai acontecer na quinta-feira dia 10 de abril às 6 p.m. no pub The Kings Head e custa €6 para estudantes.
Outra atitude muito legal do Cúirt são os “Poems for Patience” que são poesias selecionadas para serem distribuídas nos corredores dos University Hospital Galway e Merlin Park University Hospital. Este ano o poeta Theo Dorgan vai selecionar as poesias para o Art Corridor do hospital a ideia é que as poesias possam acolher as pessoas que estão esperando, tornand um espaço de reflexão e esperança tanto para os momentos de alegria, quanto para os momentos difíceis dentro do hospital.
Na sexta-feira 11 de abril as 3 p.m. vai ter uma transmissão de rádio ao vivo no Nuns Island Theatre com vários escritores, músicos e participantes do Cúirt, esse também é um evento gratuito. Também sexta-feira as 4 p.m. vai ter um evento que reúne várias figuras da edição, professores quevão discutir em um painel sobre “Innovatin in youth programming” no Town Hall Bar.
Para os cinéfilos no sábado as 3 p.m. no Roisín Dubh vai ter uma sessão do Music Club e a Maria Doyle Kennedy que é uma cantora, atriz e cineasta que se consagrou com o filme “The Commitments” (1991). Ela e o escritor do “The irish Times” Jim Carrol vão conversar sobre música (custo: €8). Uma hora depois as 4 p.m. no Town Hall Studio vai ter uma discussão entre duas mulheres: Nikky Finney, uma poeta negra americana que nasceu na Carolina do Sul, e Eleanor Hooker uma escritora irlandesa que começou a sua vida profissional como enfermeira.
Certamente outra grande pedida é o grupo de teatro “Three Man Talking about things they Kinda Know About” com três escritores Colm Keegan, Kalle Ryan e Stephen James Smith em um formato de sarau falam das experiências deles e suas vivências.

Cúirt - International Festival of Literature
Dear writers and literature enthusiasts on duty, missing 19 days to get the biggest literature festival in Ireland: the Cúirt - International Festival of Literature in Gaelic or Cúirt - Féile Ifirnáisiúnta Litríochta. I've thought several times because I landed in Ireland and Galway, for a bit choices, a bit the ways were guiding me. And just by chance or did not stop in the city that hosts the largest literary event in Ireland: Galway.
The Cúirt happens in April and with the participation of several people: as poets, editors, columnists, journalists, musicians, actors and others. This year will happen the day 8-19th April. The event consists of soirees, workshops, theater performances, presentations of humor, lots of music and appreciation of local culture. To "feel" the mood of the event chose this video Cúirt 2013 with the text "Wonder Wander the" American poet Sharon Olds.
Apart from Irish authors have authors from Canada and the UK, and not just as writers, but enthusiasts of world of books: publishers, organizers of literary events, and people working in different areas related to literary. The event is wonderful and has several free activities, but many also paid. Values range from € 6 (€ 8 for students and normal) to € 24 (which if you stop to think are over 80 reais), so what's left is to enjoy what you have for free. I sent an email volunteering to join and who knows be able to monitor more closely the schedule.
The Cúirt is very well organized and has many good ideas, as a project called "Read Me I'm Yours" which are copies of books from authors who will attend the Cúirt distributed throughout the city, people can simply pick up the books to take home to read, and certainly seek about the author who will attend the Cúirt. It is very interesting that movement. Another good idea that is advertised is a community reading called "One Book, One Tuam", Tuam is a small town in County Galway, the project intends to include the community to enrich children's learning. The project objectives are to reduce the difficulties in literacy, to promote reading for pleasure and create a sense of community. So every year they try to stimulate community of this city to read a book, this year is The London Eye Mystery by the Irish author Siobhan Dowd (more information tuam@galwaylibrary.ie).
Also there is a part of the program called "Kitchen Readings" an author will read their poems at the home of any Irish family who "borrows" your kitchen for the soiree. This year will be with the Irish poets Elaine Feeney and Dave Lordan. Dave Lordan will give a paid (€ 24) creative writing workshop on Thursday at 10 p.m. at Hotel Meyrick, with the intention of exploring the trial writing practice.
Another very cool event is the "Over the Edge" (this is free!) which started in 2003 and became an established series of literary reading in various places participating authors who share their writings. Over The Edge takes place on Thursday 10th at 4 pm at the Town Hall Theatre. At the same time the Cope Shop on Wednesday will be a meeting of the magazine "Ropes" created by students of Masters in Art and Literature Program and Publication of National University of Ireland, Galway. This year's theme is the Ropes "Home". Another magazine that will be at the event is the Irish Crannog which means "young tree" and is apparently very good.

Also part of the program (and hasn't a high cost) is the Poetry Grand Slam . It is a competition in which people read their work and the best stories and readers are elected, the top will go to a famous event in Ireland the Electric Picnic (worth reading about). The Poetry Slam will take place on Thursday April 10 at 6 pm in the pub The Kings Head and costs € 6 for students.
Another very cool attitude of Cúirt are "Poems for Patience" that are selected poems to be distributed in the corridors of University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital . This year the poet Theo Dorgan will select the poems for the Art Corridor of the hospital . It is the idea that can embrace people who are waiting, making time for reflection and hope for moments of joy, and for the difficult times within hospital.
On Friday, April 11 at 3 pm will be a radio broadcast live on Nuns Island Theatre with several writers, musicians and participants of Cúirt, this is also a free event. Also Friday at 4 pm will be an event that brings together several persons of edition, teachers will discuss in a panel on "Innovation in youth programming" at Town Hall Bar.
For film buffs on Saturday at 3 pm in Roisín Dubh will have a session of Music Club with Maria Doyle Kennedy , she is a singer, actress and filmmaker who was consecrated with the movie "The Commitments" (1991). In addition to all this there is a children's television programming with several Irish writers, the "Labs" so the kids have a place to closely know literature and spend some time with the authors of children's books.
I'm happy to be in Galway to participate in this event, with the restless movement of the city, with different spaces of cultural effervescence. And so grateful to be in Galway. I put only a part of the programming here, the book with the programming has about 60 pages with information about the authors and other participating artists.
