     Nos últimos dias não consegui escrever. Ontem fomos para Connemara que deriva da palavra gaélica Con Mhac que significa "Descendentes do mar" fomos com a empresa Dublin and Galway Tour Company .   Connemara fica a oeste do condado de Galway e é um lugar incrível com vários lagos e cadeias montanhosas, e claro castelos.      No começo o guia começou a contar um pouco da história de Galway, falar da população da cidade, alguns pubs, música irlandesa... Logo que entramos no "interior" a paisagem começou a mudar com várias montanhas começando a aparecer, lugares muito verdes contrastando com o cinza do céu e muitas ovelhas no meio do caminho. A primeira parada foi no entorno do Lough Inagh (Lago Inagh).

       Mas estava realmente frio. O vento era como dizemos no sul do Brasil "frio de renguea cusco", ou sejaem um tradução livre, frio de fazer até cachorro tremer. Mas a paisagem e o lugar valiam a pena.

      Depois da parada no Lough Inagh fomos para o castelo de Kylemore, a entrada custou 8 euros para cada pessoa da excursão. O castelo começou a ser construído em 1867 para ser a casa de Mitchell Henry um médico de Londres, cuja família era na indústria têxtil de Manchester, Inglaterra. Ele se mudou para a Irlanda, quando ele e sua esposa, Margaret, compraram as terra na Irlandae tornou-se um político, e foi também uma Member of Parlament para Condado de Galway 1871-1885.

         Eu esperava poder adentrar por mais partes do castelo, mas deu para conhecer um pedacinho do castelo: sala de estar, sala de jantar, e algumas antesalas. O castelo foi desenhado por James Franklin Fuller e precisou de cem homens durante quatro anos para ficar pronto. O castelo tem uma área de 3700m², ele tem nada mais nada menos que: 33 quartos, 4 banheiros, 4 salas de estar, salão de festas, sala de bilhar, biblioteca, escritório, sala de escola, quarto para fumantes, sala de armas e vários escritórios e residências de pessoal interno para o mordomo, cozinheiro, governanta e outros criados.

          Também tem uma igreja em estilo Gótico que o Mitchell Henry construiu e algo muito bonito, talvez o que mais valha a pena do passeio, um jardim  belíssimo o Victorian Walled Garden. O jardim foi planejado e estava a frente do seu tempo para o século XIX.

     O castelo permaneceu na propriedade de Henry por um bom tempo foi vendido para o Duque de Manchester em 1909, que residiam lá por vários anos, depois devido as dívidas de jogo ele e a duquesa foram forçados a vender sua "humilde casa". Assim em 1920 as Irmãs Beneditinas compraram o castelo e o transformaram ela em um colégio que funcionou até junho 2010 recebendo moças de todo o mundo para estudar lá.  Agora é um lugar para visitação apenas.

    

     Depois nós fomos na Cong Village onde foi filmado "The Quiet Man" dirigido por John Ford e foi premiado em duas categorias no oscar de 1952. Lá também tinha o Ashford Castle que é belíssimo e é um hotel, porém não podemos chegar lá só vê-lo de longe porque tínhamos apenas 30 minuto para ficar em Cong Village. Lá também tinha uma igreja antiga a "Cong Abbey" que foi abandonada e hoje é um cemitério.

     Antes de chegarmos na Cong Village tinha árvore que você deveria amarrar a sua peça de roupa ou jogá-la segundo a superstição naquela região vivem muitos Leprechauns (Duendes) e se você colocar uma peça de roupa de uma pessoa ela pode se curar de uma doença ou ter uma boa saúde sempre.

      No fim dá viagem ainda tiveram algumas paisagens bonitas que você pode encontrar no álbum de fotos.  Mas o que mais me impressionou da viagem (apesar de toda a viagem ser impressionante) foi o Ross Errilly Friary (em irlandês: Mainistir Ros Oirialaigh) construído e re-construído (devido os ataques e guerras) desde 1351. Atualmente o lugar é um cemitério (parece um costume transformar lugares abandonados em cemitérios).

       O Ross Errilly Friary era um mosteiro franciscano medieval e foi abandonado por volta de 1800. Foi possível com a explicação do guia imaginar o castelo e a sua opulência, as grandes lareiras, o lugar do sino, os portões, calabouços, sala de jantar, quartos, algo realmente incrível. Como nos livros antigos, ou nas histórias que costumamos ler. Lembrou-me O nome da Rosa de Umberto Eco.

       Claro que no ônibus teve chimarrão para acompanhar o passeio e esquentar-nos nas terras geladas irlandesas.

     A trilha sonora do dia é "Les lacs du Connemara" do Michael Sardou um cantor francês controverso que escreveu sobre Connemara, é uma música boa para também conhecer a história do lugar.

Connemara

 

     In the last days I could not write. Yesterday we went to  Connemara which derives from the Gaelic word Con Mhac meaning "sea Descendants" went with the company  Dublin and Galway Tour Company . Connemara is west of County Galway and is an amazing place with lots of lakes, mountain ranges, and of course castles.

       In the beginning the tour guide talk about the history of Galway, population, pubs, irish music...  Soon as we entered on the "interior" the landscape began to change: several mountains beginning to appear, very green places contrasting with the gray of the sky and many sheep along the way. The first stop was at around Lough Inagh (Lake Inagh).

       It was really cold. The wind was as we say in the south of Brazil "frio the renguea cusco", in a free translation, mean cold make the dog tremble. But the scenery and the place were worth it.

      After the stop at Lough Inagh went to Kylemore Castle, the entry cost 8 Euroa for each person tour. The castle was begun in 1867 to be the home of a doctor Henry Mitchell of London, whose family work with the textile industry in Manchester, England. He moved to Ireland when he and his wife, Margaret, purchased the land in Ireland and he became a irish politician, and was also a Member of Parlament for Galway County from 1871 to 1885.

      I hoped to enter for more parts of the castle, but has to know a bit of the castle: lounge, dining room, and some rooms. The castle was designed by James Franklin Fuller and had a hundred men for four years to get ready. The castle has an area of ​​3700m ², it is nothing less than: 33 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 4 sitting rooms, ballroom, billiard room, library, study, school room, smoking room, gun room and various offices and domestic staff residences for the butler, cook, housekeeper and other servants.

     It also has a church in Gothic style that Mitchell Henry built. But the most beautiful place it was the Victorian Walled Garden. The garden was planned and was ahead of its time to the nineteenth century.

     The castle remained the property of Henry for a long time and it was sold to the Duke of Manchester in 1909 and he resided there for several years, then due to gambling debts he and the Duchess were forced to sell their "humble home". Thus in 1920 the Benedictine Sisters purchased the castle and turned it into a college which worked until June 2010 getting girls from all over the world to study there. Now it is a place for visitation only.

      After we went in Cong Village where they filmed "The Quiet Man" directed by John Ford and the filme has awarded in two categories at the Oscar 1952. There had also Ashford Castle which is gorgeous and is a hotel, but we can not get there only see him from afar because we only had 30 minutes to stay in Cong Village. There was also an old church "Cong Abbey" that has been abandoned and is now a cemetery.

     Before we arrived in Cong Village we found a tree at the road that you should tie your piece of clothing or throwing it at the camp. According to the superstition that region live a lot of Leprechauns  and if you put a piece of clothing a person she could be healed an illness or have good health always.

      At the end of the trip still had some beautiful landscapes you can find in the photo album. But what impressed me most of the trip (despite all the travel being awesome) was the Friary Errilly Ross (Irish: Ros Mainistir Oirialaigh) built and re-built (due to the attacks and wars) since 1351. Currently the place is a cemetery (apparently a custom transform abandoned places in cemeteries).

         The Errilly Ross Friary was a medieval Franciscan monastery and was abandoned around 1800. Was possible with the explanation of the guide imagine the castle and its opulence, large fireplaces, the place of the bell, the gates, dungeons, dining room, bedrooms, something really amazing. As in ancient books, or the stories we used to read. It reminded me of The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco.

       Of course we did a mate to drink into the bus to accompany the tour and warm us in Irish frozen lands.

     The soundtrack of the day is "Les lacs du Connemara" that's a song by Michael Sardou a controversial French singer who wrote about Connemara, is a good song to know the history of the place.
