Lá le Pádraig (St. Patrick's Day)

Posted by Mayara Floss

O  Lá le Pádraig  é o famoso Saint Patrick's Day em gaélico.

Patricks é a nossa esperança".

Voam abraços,

Mayara

---  English Version ----

Lá le Pádraig

The  Lá le Pádraig  is the famous Saint Patrick's Day in Gaelic. A cultural and religious holiday in Ireland celebrated on March 17. Several churches jointly celebrate Saint Patrick's day: Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans and others. Patrick was born in Britain was captured when he was sixteen by Irish raiders and remained for six years in Ireland as a slave, this time he converted to Catholicism. After that time he had a dream and was told by God that should flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to their homeland.

When he returned to Britain he began his studies for the priesthood. In 432 he returned to Ireland as a bishop to teach Christianity to the pagan people (also referred to in the stories as "snakes") who lived in Ireland. He died on 17 March 461 after spending almost thirty years evangelizing the Irish people and according to tradition he was buried at Downpatrick.

In the past the color representing Patrick's Day was blue, but over time became green, also because the colors of the Irish flag. But because the symbol Patrick's Day is a three leaf clover? Second story because Saint Patrick used a three-leaf clover to explain the Holy Trinity, then that became the symbol Patrick's Day I thought this video (no translation) super interesting explaining in a simple way the story of Patrick's Day.

This year we decided to spend Patrick's Day in Galway, had the parade and everything looked white, orange and green. Nearly everyone had something representative of Ireland beyond animation that extended for Pubs. The parade somewhat resembles the September 7 in Brazil, but it is interesting that music is not only military band shows the Irish culture. Today was the Brazil flag in the parade St. Patrick's day by Galway. (:

In Patrick's Day has many people from other countries, it's cool, but I think it is better to experience Irish culture without all the places are overcrowded. On the other hand, it is worth and the music was great celebration with traditional music and Irish music at each pub, after the show we went to the Taffes.

The song of the day is a traditional Irish song about the history of St. Patrick's "Dóchas Linn Naomh Pádraig" which means "St. Patricks is our hope."

Flying hugs,

Mayara
