Taaffes

Taaffes
O grupo é conhecido pelo nome "Out of the West".

A música do dia é da famosa banda The Dubliners " I'll tell me Ma".

"I'll tell me Ma when I go home
The boys won't leave the girls alone.
They pull my hair, they stole my comb,
but that's alright till I go home. (...)"

Taaffes

Taaffes
I've been many times in a pub here in Galway. Was easily elected for me one of the best pubs in Galway: the Taaffes. Last Thursday was the first time we went there, it is a pub that only traditional music such as The Crane. It is easy for you to see the Irish get up and start dancing in Taaffes in the midst of laughter and beer. When we walked in there the first time last Thursday, we followed our ears to get to the stage in the background. We found a trio playing the violin, which is actually not a violin according to what was explained to me is as I understand it is a fiddle, accordion and guitar. The group is known by the name "Out of the West."

According to Taaffes Irish Music starts around 5.30pm and goes until 11pm. With two music sessions. The place is very cozy, you are very close to the musicians and you can watch and listen good Irish music. He combined well with the idea of what I imagined a Pub in Ireland.

An interesting fact when you're in an Irish Pub is synchrony, in the middle of the song the musicians begin to stomp their feet in the floor to mark the time and everyone begins to mark time together with the palms or feet. It's like everything vibrates at the same rhythm.

Sunday we chose again to spend some of the day at Taaffes and it was the same group of Thursday. But when we decided we would want to stay at Taaffes in Patrick's Day we run after the show to get a table. The first group of the afternoon is another trio with a guitar, an accordion and a banjo. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask what was the name of the group, but if I discover I'll correct my lack. Luisa and I were "pulled" by two irish ladies and we dance Irish music, and so we learn the first steps of traditional dance. It was fun, but as time passed the pub was getting very crowded and almost impossible to move.

Lá le Pádraig (St. Patrick's Day)

Posted by Mayara Floss

O  Lá le Pádraig  é o famoso Saint Patrick's Day em gaélico.

Patricks é a nossa esperança".

Lá le Pádraig

The  Lá le Pádraig  is the famous Saint Patrick's Day in Gaelic. A cultural and religious holiday in Ireland celebrated on March 17. Several churches jointly celebrate Saint Patrick's day: Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans and others. Patrick was born in Britain was captured when he was sixteen by Irish raiders and remained for six years in Ireland as a slave, this time he converted to Catholicism. After that time he had a dream and was told by God that should flee from captivity to the coast, where he would board a ship and return to their homeland.

When he returned to Britain he began his studies for the priesthood. In 432 he returned to Ireland as a bishop to teach Christianity to the pagan people (also referred to in the stories as "snakes") who lived in Ireland. He died on 17 March 461 after spending almost thirty years evangelizing the Irish people and according to tradition he was buried at Downpatrick.

In the past the color representing Patrick's Day was blue, but over time became green, also because the colors of the Irish flag. But because the symbol Patrick's Day is a three leaf clover? Second story because Saint Patrick used a three-leaf clover to explain the Holy Trinity, then that became the symbol Patrick's Day I thought this video (no translation) super interesting explaining in a simple way the story of Patrick's Day.

This year we decided to spend Patrick's Day in Galway, had the parade and everything looked white, orange and green. Nearly everyone had something representative of Ireland beyond animation that extended for Pubs. The parade somewhat resembles the September 7 in Brazil, but it is interesting that music is not only military band shows the Irish culture. Today was the Brazil flag in the parade St. Patrick's day by Galway. (:

In Patrick's Day has many people from other countries, it's cool, but I think it is better to experience Irish culture without all the places are overcrowded. On the other hand, it is worth and the music was great celebration with traditional music and Irish music at each pub, after the show we went to the Taffes.

The song of the day is a traditional Irish song about the history of St. Patrick's "Dóchas Linn Naomh Pádraig" which means "St. Patricks is our hope."
